A Celebration of Culture - The 10th Annual Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards on Citytv!

The star studded performances by top aboriginal musicians including Buffy Sainte-Marie, Crystal Shawanda, Northern Cree, Stevie Salas and more will air Friday, June 19th at 8 pm on all Citytv stations across Canada including Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg.

Witness timeless aboriginal traditions fused with passionate and celebrated musical performances.

This engaging one-hour special takes viewers behind-the-scenes at one of the premiere music awards and festivals in Canada celebrating the best in Aboriginal music. From the old ways to the new wave, The Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards features timeless percussion drums and traditional Pow Wows showcasing over 1000 dancers, contemporary performances, acoustic folk, cool country and rock 'n' roll. Hear from the artists and honourees themselves as they open up about tradition, culture and musical inspirations.

Country music sensation Crystal Shawanda led the field taking home five awards at the 10th annual star-studded gala which took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto last November. The evening's big winner, Shawanda won every award she was nominated for, including Best Female Artist, Best Single, Best Video, Best Country Album, and Album of the Year.

Accolades were handed out in 29 CAMA categories recognizing outstanding Aboriginal musicians and industry members. Four artists were double winners, including Eagle and Hawk, who snagged Best Rock Album and Best Group or Duo, Tanya Tagaq (Best Female Traditional and Best Album Design), Mitch Daigneault (Best Male Artist and Best songwriter), and Alyssa Delbaere-Sawchuk, who captured the Best Fiddle and Best Instrumental Album awards. The evening also featured performances by top Aboriginal musicians, including award winners 7th Generation, Christa Couture, Northern Cree, Steve Salas, and the legendary Buffy Sainte-Marie, who was also recognized with the Lifetime Contribution to Aboriginal Music honour.
